Donald Trump Could Announce White House Run On The Day He’s Scheduled To Testify Before January 6 Committee

Former President Donald Trump must turn over his documents dealing with the events of January 6, 2021, according to the House select committee, which subpoenaed him last month, and is ready to testify on November 14—the same day Trump is predicted to announce his bid for re-election.

“We have informed Trump’s counsel that he must begin producing records no later than next week and he remains under subpoena for testimony starting on November 14th,” Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) mentioned in a joint statement on Friday night. The bipartisan committee—comprised of seven Democrats and two Republicans—is giving Trump extra time to hand over the records, as the original deadline was Friday morning at 10 a.m.

During the committee’s last public hearing, the members unanimously voted to subpoena the former president. In response to the subpoena issued on October 21, Trump’s lawyer stated: “We understand that, once again, flouting norms and appropriate and customary process, the Committee has publicly released a copy of its subpoena. As with any similar matter, we will review and analyze it, and will respond as appropriate to this unprecedented action.” Trump additionally sent a lengthy missive to the committee, making it unclear whether or not he would testify.

“I think that he has a legal obligation to testify but that doesn’t always carry weight with Donald Trump,” Cheney stated at an event on Tuesday.

According to CNN, as of October 26, Trump’s attorneys had accepted the service of the subpoena.

On Friday, before the committee extended its deadline for Trump to give the documents, Joyce Vance, former United States Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, stated: “Failure to comply would put him in the same category as Steve Bannon, who was prosecuted, so some effort would be smart.”

Trump is allegedly planning to announce that he is running for president in 2024 on November 14, based on those in his inner circle. The date is relevant because it falls shortly after the November 8 midterm elections, setting Trump up to take credit for Republican victories and fuel off of them; now the date can be glistening with irony, as the former president is ready to be deposed on the same day.

“I give him a ton of credit for not announcing this year, for not stepping in the way of the midterm candidates, which a lot of people around him, who frankly want him for their next meal and their next gig and their next center of power” might not have achieved, stated former senior counselor Kellyanne Conway on Thursday.

Trump has not yet responded to the committee’s updates.
